The ReCONNstruction Center is dedicated to being environmentally responsible by keeping building materials out of landfills while recycling them and providing them to the public at greatly reduced prices. Our donors include manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, retailers and the general public. Our donors receive a charitable tax deduction on the materials they donate to us.

We're happy to help you find what you need. Come in and meet our team. Donations come in constantly, so if you're in the store, and don't find what you're looking for, come back and visit again.

Mission Report

Our Mission Statement: The mission of The ReCONNstruction Center is to promote environmental and social sustainability by salvaging and acquiring building materials and selling them at prices affordable to average wage earners, and to support these activities specifically in urban areas, recognizing those locations as essential to the long term sustainability of the economy and culture.

History Report

The ReCONNstruction Center was founded in 2003 by John Powers and his staff. The original founders of The ReCONNstruction Center created this nonprofit organization in order to reduce the waste of natural resources by the re-use of building materials. Selling the materials at very affordable prices allowed The ReCONNstruction Center to be a community resource and help owners and landlords maintain affordable housing. The ReCONNstruction Center operated for four and a half years supported by several grants and the proceeds from the sale of materials.

About Us Report

Selling quality preowned items is as old as common sense. Yankee frugality and global knowledge came together and spawned the concept of creating a used building materials store here in Connecticut. John Powers, a Connecticut native, had seen building materials being reused all over the U.S. and abroad.

Giving Back Report

As part of our mission to support the community, The ReCONNstruction Center recently donated to Rebuilding Together New Britain, for which they were very grateful. We have also presented a "really big check" to the Hartford Area Habitat for a Habitat Project on Sexton Street in New Britain.

Prior to their moving they were somewhat organized but now, forget attempting to any attempt in finding what you want. The powers to be move into a dungeon like space which if one person is not there, you will never find what you want. Very Disappointed to say the least. Please Get Organized.

Wonderful store with a large selection of building materials. Tom was so very helpful when we donated our doors, and purchased another door. They had nice kitchen cabinets, sinks, light fixtures, and some furniture too. Tina gave us great directions, and made us feel really good about donating

Website said open, went there & store closed, looks like for good.looked empty. Their attitude towards customers probably affected their business, for sure. I've prevoously dropped off some nice stuff & they were kind of rude.

Manager was a rude sarcastic b. She behaved as if everything in the store is hers. Suggested Lowe's several times and even mentioned that contractors go there to steal. I can see why I never see the same help twice.

This place is a joke. They post phony ads on Craigslist and showcase things which are already sold. To top it off, rude as hell!
