Very friendly and professional service tech. Was told i was paying for a trained and certified Rinnai tech to come and diagnose the issue and give a price to fix. I recieved no diagnosis but instead I was shown several generic (costly) options on a tablet that did not give confidence of fixing the issue.

I called this company because they had a sticker on the furnace from before we bought our house. Our furnace stopped working so they came out promptly, looked at the furnace and was told that a blower was the problem and it would be $1100 to repair. Perfect- they fixed it that day and the furnace started working. For 24 hours. Then it stopped again.

I called them and they sent a tech out that day who said it will be another $1000 to fix it. I called and asked why this wasn't fixed the first time they were out? The lady who answered the phone said she would call be back "when she could give more educated answers and so I sound like I know what I'm talking about" and did about an hour later. She basically said I was a liar, that I was told about this problem along with the one that was fixed and that I declined to fix it, and there was nothing else that they could do for me. Well, she was right about one thing which is there is nothing that they will be doing for me. I feel like I was taken advantage of and if I could give them less then one star I would.

Unfortunately, I have to say I was very disappointed with Penning on my latest service from them. I had a fast leak coming from the shutoff valve under my toilet. Penning sent Brad out, who was very personable and capable; he did fix the leak, but only offered me two prices as to how it could be fixed. He said it would be $479 to replace the valve and tubing under the toilet; if I wanted him to do a more expensive fix, including replacing the line where it ran through the floor, that would cost well over $700. Having recently been hospitalized with a fall after fainting, I am without my job right now (one is not supposed to drive for 6 months after fainting!) Therefor, I chose the cheaper of the two options presented to me, not realizing it could have been fixed for cheaper!

My son-in-law DID realize that, having had pretty much the same problem under his kitchen sink about a year ago - fixed by Godwin Plumbing for $80. He actually called and talked to Jim Penning about this, and was treated very discourteously, and told "if your mother-in-law was too senile to make her own decisions, you should have been there with her so she would not have chosen the "bronze option!" Jim told my son-in-law that I was offered 5 options, and I chose the "bronze option!" Jason assured him that senile I was not, and I was only offered the two choices mentioned above!

I know that Brad, as nice as he was, definitely did not tell me about any bronze, silver, gold or "bandaid" options as he claimed to my son-in-law who spoke to him today. Brad claimed that he told me about all those options, and I must have not really heard them! That is simply not true, and it is disappointing that he would say that! I would not have thought he would be so dishonest! (At least he spoke courteously, however, and did not speak rudely as Jim Penning did! Jim even went so far as to say, "Maybe you should just go to Godwin next time then, and then come crying back to us after it's not fixed correctly - a needless slur to make against another company!") I will not be using Penning's services again: it's a bit too late now, but I have gone on the BBB site and read a lot of the reviews for Penning, and never once did Penning seem willing to make amends with a customer; instead, it always seemed to somehow be the customer's fault! 2/12/2022 I am adding to my unhappy review today! Penning never did offer any compensation as noted aboce, and I will never use their services again, as today, having a hot water heater problem, I noticed that there were Penning stickers slapped all over my water heater as well as my furnace - neither of which Penning has ever worked on!

I consider that unethical, and a blatant way to try to attractt future business, as Brad muist have slapped those stickers on when he fixed my shutoff leak for ythat exhorbitant price! Wow! My friend Randy who had Penning out for a different problem also noticed Penning stickers all over his new furnace! He also will not use Penning again for that reason! What gall!

Penning Plumbing has stolen $696 from me. They came to fix my furnace, and took the defective part away. Per furnace protocols, Penning is obliged to file a warranty claim on my behalf, and have not done so. I have been promised resolution. I have been promised compensation. I have been promised four times that they would call me back and they have NEVER done so. Multiple broken promises. No promised reimbursement. They have my money and will not return it. Do not do business with them.

Troubling Event! On the morning of my mother's 93rd birthday, 12/28/20, her furnace stop working. I called the company that had installed it, Penning, nine years earlier. As it was a Sunday, I knew there would be an extra fee($179.00). I agreed and scheduled the next available time slot. The tech arrived around 3pm. After a brief inspection, a new starting fan was needed.

Then the sales pitch for the Platinum Plan. After choosing the cheapest Plan, the tech could not the find part in his van. Also, he would not go to his shop for it. This left me dumbfounded. He instead suggested I call his office on Monday morning "first thing at 9am when they open to try and reschedule for the next available appointment. Make sure you call promptly at 9am for best chance at getting an appointment." What!?. Wait.what?

I was not happy at all. The next morning, when I talked to owner, he stood by his $179.00 charge. By the end of conversation, I was told to take my business elsewhere. I did! I called Vredevoogd. They arrived early the same day, had the part on their van, and fixed the problem. That tech said his company's shop has parts for equipment they install. He also checked the rest of the furnace for any other possible issues. Vredevoogd is the BEST! Penning is.not

Levi provided fantastic customer service. Was professional, courteous and knowledgeable. Arrived on time and had us back with water in no time. It was a weekend evening and he couldn't do a new install that night (didn't want to disturb the neighbors drilling an exhaust port through the side of the house) but was able to get back here first thing Monday morning. Had the job done by early afternoon. He was even able to tackle an extra mainline service job all in one appointment. Couldn't ask for better service! Thanks Levi!

My A/C unit went out at the worst possible time, Penning's really came through for me. They were able to visit same day, quickly evaluate and repair on the spot. Darrel was the technician and was very knowledgeable and friendly. You can easily tell he loves his work and helping people. He gave me updates as he was working on it and also cleaned the unit and shared with me some details I wouldn't have noticed.

I was not pressured with needless upsells and the value was appropriate, never felt I needed to bid out. I feel like I can trust this company with my future A/C and plumbing needs. I'm extremely happy.

Brad did a great job repairing our water heater! Not only were the repairs done professionally, Brad went above and beyond to locate hard to find parts to complete the job. Many thanks to Brad and the team at Penning! We will be using Penning in the future! Service: Boiler repair

Our water heater burst on a Saturday afternoon so we had to shut off water to the house. We were very happy that a service tech was going to be able to come over same day. Levi was very professional, friendly, responsive. He presented us with pricing options and explained them in detail. We selected the gold package and we are very happy with our new system. I definitely recommend them.

I had a broken pipe behind the wall of a shower and because there weren't any shut-off valves in front of the shower, I had to shut off the water to the entire house. I'd never used Penning before, but they came up in a Google search as highly rated, so gave them a call. Frank came out and immediately installed shut-off valves so that we could get the water back on, and then he gave me an estimate for the full job to be done at a later time when it could fit his schedule.

I had a couple days to review the estimate, and since it looked to be a fairly quick job, I felt it was too high, so I called Frank to discussed it and he and I came to a new estimate, which he got approved from management. He came out a few days later and finished the job perfectly and quickly. Frank is the best and if the rest of the plumbing professionals are like him, I can definitely recommend them, but don't be afraid to talk through the estimate if you think it's too high. They're willing to work with you to make it right.

Be prepared: This company uses a "plan" selection sales pitch vs pricing out your project. Reminded us of a timeshare sell. Example: you call Penning, explain your project, set an appt date/time. The plumber arrives, you show him the project and he gets out his ipad. He explains each plan, what parts they include, warranty, and cost. EX: 1) Urgent temp fix until a part comes in. 2) The bronze plan [basic fix, 6 mo warranty] Silver plan, Gold or Platinum.

After hearing all the options you pick the plan you want. What we wanted, and what we set up the appt for was to replace the old rubber washing machine hoses with metal wrapped hoses, and switch out the shut-off red turn knobs for the lever style. We were having zero issues; no water leaks, pressure issues.just being proactive, as old rubber hoses wear out, split and can cause major water damage.

The levers are supposedly better than the turn knobs. Last Nov 2019 we made an appt, the plumber arrived, got out his ipad, explained the plans. We selected bronze. Oct 2020 (11 months later) we discovered water running out of the laundry closet into the kitchen. When I shut off the lever the water continued to flow because the break was in the new pipe they'd installed ABOVE the shut off.

I ran to the basement to shut off the main water supply and discovered the water had run down the wall into our basement bathroom, under the stairs and into the carpeted family room. I called Penning, the plumber came out, redid the job, charged us another $500. This pipe crack was due to either a defective pipe system, or workmanship error. Penning manager was to get back to us regarding insurance.as in using theirs.

Not a peep from Penning. The water damaged a large area of plywood in the laundry closet out into the kitchen. Because the sheet vinyl flooring runs from laundry into kitchen, dining area, half bath and entrance area it all needs to be replaced. At this point we are out $500 more to Penning to replace the defective or poorly installed pipe, our $500 deductible, plus the hassle, time, energy dealing with the water mess, shopping for new flooring, etc. Bottom line for us, Penning doesn't stand behind their work.

Replaced the pressure sensing system on my furnace. Offered me 4 price plans with the platinum being recommended if I could afford it: $1200 plus paid in advance. Band aid being the cheapest plan. The tech took 44 minutes to install the new parts that he had brought into the house in a small plastic bag. This raised the question of what I had paid for aside from the repair, the follow up they would do in a year and two years replacement guarantee which was included in the platinum plan. Asked Penning multiple times to send me the labor and parts cost which they have refused to do.

I have made a complain to the Better Business Bureau ( case # 37097992 )regarding this lack of transparency. After much delay they responding to the BBB complaint by again refusing to itemize what I purchased and then lying about talking with me directly, inferring that I was trying to get the platinum plan at the band aid price. The issue is having enough information to make an informed decision on what plan to purchase.

I would not have purchased the platinum plan if I had known that most of the cost was for insurance rather then quality of repair. There unwillingness to provide me the specifics of what I purchased speaks to their lack of transparency and the real possibility that they are profiting from a deceptive practice.

If it were possible to give zero stars, they would get that. They replaced the main sewer line under our house. yes, jackhammered up a trench in our basement floor, tore out the rusted cast iron (old house) and replaced it with PVC. This was 6 years ago. Recently the line backed up through the floor drain. We had the line cleared and then viewed with a camera which showed a sag in the new PVC sewer line in the section they replaced.

I asked how this could be. shouldn't a PVC sewer line last many decades? Over the next month they failed to respond to phone messages, failed to reply to an e-mail inquiry, and finally after I sent a lengthy e-mail laying out the series of events and asking for answers sent a brief reply (with an attitude. if it's possible for e-mails to have an attitude) stating the warranty on their work is 1 year.

This is beyond 1 year so I am welcome to engage their services again to replace their replacement. Lousy work, even lousier customer service, and oh by the way. they're among the higher priced plumbers in town. Save yourself the headache. go somewhere else.

This company charges way to much for a simple job. We had a kitchen sink put in and they charged us $1,199.00. Yes, you're reading this right. Because of lack of communication on my part with my wife we ended paying this bill. Most plumbers charge by the hour, around $95, this company does not. They give you a level of service and quality you can pay for. The job was done right, it took 2 hours, but not worth $1,199. Stay away and do your shopping for a decent price.

I have never written a review but thought this one was necessary. Our hot water heater was not heating up so we called several plumbers for estimates, for the two elements, and they ranged from $200.00 to $250.00 but they were unable to get to us until Tuesday and this occurred on a Friday evening. Called Penning and they said they could be to our home shortly and stated they couldn't give us an estimate over the phone but would do so when they arrived for the service call, which was $59.00.

We assumed they would be competitive with the other three plumbing companies that we contacted. SHOCK - the young gentlemen went to his truck and came back in and said that the cost would be $1,300.00. I said I just want to clarify that the cost for the two elements is $1,300.00 and not for a new water heater and he said that is correct, if you would like a new water heater the price would be over $1,700.00.

We refused service and called one of the other plumbers and told them about our situation and he said that he was booked for Tuesday but if we would get up early, he would be to our home between 6:30-7:00 a.m. to help us out. They showed up on time, replacing the two elements (for $200.00) and were gone 35 minutes later. Please make sure to get an estimate if calling Penning or you may be out $59.00 for the service charge and have to start from scratch looking for a different plumber. Kathy B

I finally got my house repiped to get rid of all the galvanized steel piping in the house. They did it at a reasonable price. But a few months later, my kitchen sink drain plugged up. I called them out to take a look at it. They charged me $600 just to Roto-Rooter it and tell me that I had to replace the pipe from my sink to the basement. Which they could do for the low-low price of an additional $1100! Are you kidding me?

My furnace wouls not fire up when it started getting cold last week so I called a few places who could not get out to my house for at least a week, one place was 2-3 weeks. I called Penning and they were out only 2-3 days. I was not given an exact day or time, just said they could come Thursday or Friday. They would call before they arrived. I didn't get any call on Thursday so I called the office back on Thursday around 4pm.

They scheduled me for the next day between 9am-12pm. The Tech, Darrel, called about 10am and stated he was on his way. He was super friendly and explained everything in full detail to me. He answered all of my questions. He fixed everything I could afford just to get my furnace running and then gave suggestions for things to update soon. Unfortunately it cost a LOT more than I expected. A little over $1200 and I had heat. Other than the cost and not knowing exactly when they were arriving, I have no issues with them. My Tech was amazing.

Hot water installation today. Excellent service, on time, available on short notice for a leaking hot water heater. Professional, thorough, very clean. Expensive. New 50 gal heater, flood pan, two ball valves, reconnected recirculating pump. $1399.99 including tax. Last time I had that heater replaced (2009) it was a little less than $700. I suspect that it was a bit high even allowing for inflation, but I liked the service, and paying a premium was worth it to have the problem solved expertly within a couple hours of my call. Would be 5 stars if not for the price.

The guy name Adam didn't even know how to fix the tub drain and somehow made the pipes leak in our garage. They came back and cut a hole in our garage to fix the pipes and said it was their fault and that they would get someone to cover the hole in our ceiling. Now it's been months they said they don't do plastering and our ceiling in the garage is leaking again. We were very loyal and faithful customers we spent a lot of money on this company and for them to treat us like this is BS. I will never recommend to anyone.

I love using Penning for our plumbing needs. Their service is reliable, thorough and they give multiple "fix/price" options. They listen to the needs of the customer and are knowledgeable and experienced. Jeff S. did an excellent job on our repair. He showed up on time, was professional and courteous, explained all the options and respected our decision on the repair. I would definitely use them again.

Less than 1 star. This place is a huge ripoff. They charged is $1450 for a new hot water heater with install. The list of things we needed was explained but the charges didn't match. I was charged $325 for a drain pan that costs $30. I called 5 times to talk to someone and the phone was not answered 1 time. After a couple messages, they finally returned my call.

The owner called and said they explained the charges upfront and if I didn't like them, I should not have agreed to the service. I explained that I called other companies and explained exactly what they did and got 3 different estimates in the range of $750-$800. He stated they aren't in the business of competing with other businesses and their prices.

I told him he's in the business of ripping people off. Don't ever use these guys. Total ripoff and terrible customer service. The owner clearly has no morals as he is totally ok with ripping people off.

Tried to make an appointment to quote a heater and AC replacement. I was told that it would have to be before 5. We agreed on 3:00 and I took time off work to make it. At 4:00 I called to see if they were still planning on coming. I was told that they are running behind and they asked me if 6:30 7:00 would be alright. I wasted personal time for this? I cancelled the appointment and will find someone else.

Penning did some work for me, but the charge was high and they keep finding other problems. Finally they gave me an estimate for $4.0000 that did not make sense. I called another company and it cost $85 to fix the problem.
