In 1947, Joe M. Clarke founded Clarke Veneers and Plywood with the purpose of supplying veneers to a rapidly growing furniture industry in the economic boom that followed World War II. In 1954, Joe's son, Holden M. Clarke, joined the company. By the end of the decade the company had begun to focus on two important industries: cut-to-size veneers for the furniture industry and stock panel veneers for the hardwood plywood industry.

The PPQ Form 505 requires the importer of record to declare the genus, species, volume, and country of harvest.
