They are always in stock with the product we need. Prices are comparable to other businesses. A fun drive as well.

My son purchased a bag from local market it doesn't burn long and was infested with fire ants. First and last time buying from this company.

Same experience as others, bought at ft sam houston commissary. Never seen firewood put itself out with several types of kindling. Not an expert but seemed unseasoned and just sat there and smoked. Pine wood I got at Lowes was much better.

Definitely not oak several pieces of hackberry and cedar elm. I hope you are not cooking with this or burning in your fireplace. This is trash wood that they are selling for oak. Go somewhere else. This is not the first time. I own a truck and neighbors wanted me to pick up a half cord so I did. Same thing no oak as guaranteed hackberry and cedar elm and whatever they can cut mixed in with most decayed and worm holes in.

Go buy somewhere else. Some may say wood is wood but that is what they want you to think. The hackberry and cedar elm cracks and pops sending embers on your floor. Not only that when the Hispanic male was helping me load the wood I saw that it was not oak as advertised and asked is it all oak and he replied yes. Wow I wish I could run a business on lies and substandard merchandise thinking the customer doesn't know any better.

I worked for a tree service company for years and know the native hardwoods very well. Shame on you guys for not being honest. Need to get things fixed at big Johns. Would not recommend!

Well its my fault. Saw reviews, flip a coin and so i got 1/2 cord. Suppose to be seasoned mesquite but find that hard to believe since they sold out last year. Mostly termite infested trees that had to get cut down! Falling apart when i unloaded truck. Bark and dust everywhere. It will burn im sure not long. Other pieces to big to burn. I dont have a log splitter. Waste of time and money (170).

We went and bought a quarter of a chord of woods. The wood was decently priced and they were very friendly. However, once we got the woods home a good half of it was rotten and termite eaten. I think I might find a different place next time.

Purchased 1/2 cord, price was very competitive with others in the area. Wood looks to be well seasoned and the variety of sizes will work well. Staff was great, and a couple of guys had my truck loaded in minutes. Filled up my 8'x4' rack perfectly.

Bought a "cord" of firewood. The price is not bad, it is wood, and it will burn, but that's about all that's good. The wood is old. Really old. Extremely dry. About half the load is 1-2" diameter branches. It's a mix of oak, pine, sweetgum. basically junk wood that looks like it was picked up off the ground with a lot of rot and insects. Most of the bark on the spit wood fell off while re-stacking. Ended up with over two yard bags of it. Once I got everything stacked it ended up less than 90% of a face cord.

Paid for 3 ricks of Oak. Got about 2 and a half ricks. There was a lot of rotten wood, willow, and red bud. Some wood was cut about 10" long and ind their racks. Some I had to cut down to go in a fire place the can take up to 25". Had to put about an 8th of a rig in the fire pit. I assume a lot of the rotten wood crumbled up an blew away. Find some where else to but wood.

Good place to go for your specialty cooking wood. The last time I bought wood, their debit card reader wasn't working and the lady said to get the wood and I could pay the next day, which I did. How often will that happen with other stores?

Maybe the wood will be good next year. What I bought on February 12th, 2021, was not seasoned. Very dense and extremely hard to keep burning. Always ask before buying. I, unfortunately, did not.

My wife went to Big John's last winter to get 1/4 cord of firewood. She came home with a bunch of crap wood. Didn't even look like firewood. It was just assorted kinds of crap trees, shapes & sizes that is almost impossible to burn in a fireplace. They took advantage of the fact that she didn't know any better. Buy real firewood from a legitimate dealer.

Always bought bags of firewood and it was always good quality. Got a cord of "oak" today and to be honest it does not appear to be all oak. Half of it it so rotten that as I am throwing it out of my truck it is breaking apart. Not worth the $300 and we will not buy wood there again. It did not even measure out to a full cord when we stacked it. Now we will have to find a new wood place since our old one isn't selling wood this year and we won't be going back to this place.

Great place to get wood for your next barbecue. The people there are fantastic. And it's a very short drive from Fort Worth.

Before retiring I used to drive by Big Johns every day and it was a handy place to stop for firewood on the way home. So I have bought firewood from them for several years. The quality and quantity of their wood has decreased. Wood is wood and it all burns. OK, I'll give you that, but the wood is partially rotted, diseased, has bugs and termite damage.

Not what I like stacking in my wood pile not far from the house. The wood is broken off, cut short (10 to 12 inches long), severely bent, and some have short forked off pieces that do not allow for straight stacking, which means you do not get a full count of wood. I'll shop around before making my next purchase.

I don't know why I thought this place would improve but, thought I would give them another shot at my business. Once again, extremely rude staff who acts like you're completely ruining their day by simply buying wood from them. The quality of the wood is complete garbage for BBQ, over seasoned, rotten, and full of bugs and worms. Way overpriced as well, don't buy wood here.

Big John's Wood Products is a family owned and operated business. As of today they have Oak, Pecan, and Mesquite in cord wood and Oak, firewood mix, Mesquite, Pecan, Hickory, and Pinion in Bags. They are all 50lbs bags expect for the pinion, they come in 25lb bags. They deliver firewood residentially. The prices shown above are no longer the same. The price for a face cord is $318.75 after tax and a 1/2 cord is $170 after tax. The driver in the picture using obscene gestures has since been terminated.

Wood is nicely cut and aged, the office staff is friendly and they load it for you fast and without damage to your vehicle. Just remember, you will NOT get an actual "cord" measurement.expect to get about a third (1/3) of what a real cord measurement represents. They use a "face cord" approach, where the measurement is based on the length of each piece (about 16 - 18""). So.a True Cord is 4 ft x 8 ft x 4 ft (for a total of 128 cubic ft).

A "face cord" is 4 ft x 8 ft x 1.4 ft (about 45 cubic ft). If you want the True Cord measurement (or portion thereof) of firewood, you'll need to get 2-3 X the amount of what they call a "face cord".

My purchase was a disappointing experience. I drove 24 miles to buy a 1/4 cord (32 cubic feet) of oak firewood. I made the purchase and they brought the wood to my truck on a forklift and loaded it. I took it home and neatly stacked it into a pile 36 inches in length x 36 inches width. When all the wood was stacked, the pile only came to 32 inches high which equals 24 cubic feet or 8 cubic feet less or 25% less than I had paid for. I'll look for another source next time.

They sale this wood at my local grocer. It's great wood better than the other brands they offer! I use it for my fire place although it says grilling wood. Also, their pinon is the best. I love the way it smells.

This place is great. I have used Big John's for over 10 years and they have great quality and the price is good as well. My first bag I bought was like most outside a store., Now I live a stone's throw away from the main place on 377 and it;'s great. Drive in pay for the wood drive out. Plus being open on Saturday is awesome in case I underestimated what I had left over from the last smoke!

The wood provides a good smoke and slow burn. Always cut just right for the smoker and you can really make a bag last a while. I use their Pecan and Hickory and it provides great flavor. I can't recommend them enough. I have also from time to time used the Mesquite and it's just as good.

It quite usual for me to drive past Big John's several times per month. While you may not drive down 377 much, I'll bet you have walked past a bag of Big John's wood more than you thought. Big John's is the ubiquitous bag wood sitting out in front your favorite grocery store. This review however is for the Big John's mothership on 377, a bit southwest of Benbrook. It's quite amazing to see the amount of wood that is stacked up here.

Most of what you see is mesquite, hickory, pecan, and oak for grilling (or smoking). They also pinion (for chimineas). It's quite likely you find these woods in front of the grocery store. Lesser know is that Big John's also has fruit woods, but you have to come here to find it. I have bought both apple and peach wood in the past. I think cherry was even available one time.

I would like to say I was buying the wood for me, but I was actually buying it for a neighbor (who rarely drives down 377). My neighbor is quite proficient at smoking things, meats, vegetables, fruits, even cheese (he built his own cold smoker). He swears by the fruits woods, so when the supply runs low, I try to oblige him with a few new bags. If you are into wood grilling or smoking, chances are you already buying Big John's.

If you want to try some different woods, it may be worth a call to see what's in the unmarked bags stacked against the office. PS. Not sure of exact hours, but I know they are open Saturday but closed Sunday.
