In the early 1900's Robert P. Schofield Sr. established Schofield Hardware in the 100 Block of West Evans Street in Florence. In 1950 the store moved to a larger facility at 276 W. Evans Street. In 1960 Robert P. Schofield Sr. passed away and left the operation to his two sons Robert and Charles who operated the store at that location until 1963 when it was moved to new facilities on Cashua Drive in Florence.

In 1967 Robert and Charles Schofield separated their business relationship. Charles and his two sons, Marshall and James at that time owned and operated the Heritage Inn and Restaurant in Florence along with several shopping center real estate holdings.

While this supply store have a wide variety of products, I will never shop here because the prices are ridiculously higher than anywhere else I've ever shopped for plumbing products.

Use to be a good place to shop.now it's just like any other business nowadays, customer service is long gone. I tried calling to see if they had a part and the lady who answered the phone was rude so I go there and the guy at the counter just looked at me an said yep.like im a bother.then when I pay for what I bought the lady's at the front door treat you like your a thief asking me questions and looking at me all crazy.this is a business for the good ole boys here in Florence.the days of the friendly hardware store are long gone.a guy named Dale is the friendliest person they have. only reason I shop here is because of him and the fact that they usually have what I need, if anyone ever opened up a place better I wouldn't step another foot in this place

I have been a Lead Design Engineer for Lennox International for over 20 years in the design of residential heating and air conditioning equipment. Also worked for Ducane and designed the equipment we sold to Carolina Supply House for distribution to the Florence market. The staff at Carolina Supply House are without a doubt the worst customer service experience I have encountered both at a National and International level - much less just the tiny market of Florence/ PeeDee.

They are rude and crude from the counter guys in the HVAC/Electrical supply to the lady at the cash register. Worst one was an older African American male behind the counter but white male was also rude. Started to go back so I could share their individual names but decided not to go back to make a scene for just trying to purchase condenser coil cleaner.

So instead I just went to United Refrigeration to get coil cleaner - no issue with purchasing coil cleaner from United Refrigeration by the way. Not my first encounter with this bunch, counter guys are not by any means experts in HVAC technical service - was there few months back to pick up a dual capacitor for my homes HVAC systems compressor and had them trying to question what I was doing at my home - until I finally told them I designed the equipment and just needed to replace a failed capacitor so I could have cooling for weekend.

I would have normally just got one from our Design Engineering laboratory in Columbia but it was the weekend and I was just going to purchase locally. I will never step foot back in their facility nor recommend them for any General or Mechanical construction/contracting needs. Nor recommend any colleagues or HVAC manufactures to trust their brands to such customer treatment.

Not only do I design HVAC equipment, I also have both South Carolina General and Mechanical contractors license. Here are some of my credentials: General Contractor - License #G115916 Mechanical Contractor - License #M1279 Universal Refrigeration License - Cert No. 651124585220 Certified Gas Laboratory Engineer ANSI Z21.47- CSA America Inc. US PATENT - US9878404B2 US PATENT - USD559962S BS Mechanical Engineering - Univ of SC George Joyner

A rare find. a real honest to goodness "fun" to browse in, fully packed hardware store! Knowledgeable staff and a real Case knife display packed with knives my grandpa would have loved. A must visit. A refreshing break from the big box.
