Amwood Building Components

We have been working with Amwood Homes for a few years now and have built multiple homes using their system. Amwood homes provides quality products and on-time services. I highly recommend their services.

They have charged me $2k for design review which should have been a part of their process. They don't communicate with you, only with the GC. If I have a chance to build a home again I would stay far away from these guys who doesn't value the end client, they will side with GC as they bring in business for them. No answer to email or voice mails. I dint find the quality of home to better than that of site built, many times I wish I had gone the traditional way. Depending on your GC you will have to spend a ton of money to make minor changes. My GC was a change order specialist.

My experience was nearly the same as the Diane McMaster review. I found Amwood thru a Home Builder that answered my builder request from home advisor. I paid a deposit to obtain an Amwood design with some changes. Amwood did not want to talk to me they only wanted to communicate with the General. After 3 months of wrong drawings being submitted to me over and over I finally said game over and asked for my money back.

I got less than half back (actually shocked to get anything from them) and I have nothing to show for it. They charged me for their time in modifying over and over a house that was too large and too expensive. I even made hand markups per their request and they still didn't draw it. It was like I was speaking another language. The General clearly was not working for me because he kept forwarding the wrong drawings to me, without even looking at them.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words but not with this company since they couldn't even work off the marked up drawing I sent them. How can you build a house when you can't even get one on paper? I'm sure their product is great if you can just decide on one of their plans without changes, and maybe a competent General Contractor would have helped.

This company needs to learn how to communicate with the buyer in addition to the General contractor. Amwood not wanting to communicate with me made this transaction impossible.

If your going to build a new home Amwood is the way to go. Fast, clean and cost effective process. My house was weather tight in 8 days!

I first started building Amwood Homes in early 1980, I stick built for many years and have since returned using Amwood as one of my suppliers. They are working hard to improve. Amwood and their team of professionals proved their value in my neighborhood. I just watched an Amwood Home being built in my neighborhood. From start to finish, this 1,700 square foot craftsman style home was framed in only four days. Not only was our neighborhood quickly returned to its normal quiet state, but the crew left the site very clean and tidy.

I was impressed with the organization and speed of the entire project. While watching, I learned quickly that an Amwood Custom Home is much more than just 2x4's and plywood. It is a supercharged building machine. Each and every wall and board was custom built in their shop to fit the home. The house framing started with the installation of the lower level supports.

The floor system was then craned in one enormous section at a time. It only took about an hour or so and the entire floor was finished. It was at that time when I saw the crane lifting giant walls out of an enclosed trailer. The walls even had large windows already installed in them. Each wall section was carefully installed until that part of the project was completed.

The crew, with the help of a crane, then started to set the roof trusses and plywood. Amwood built this home in an effortless manner. Within another week the home was weather-tight and the roofing and siding was installed. Amwood showed me a positive and modern method to building a new custom home.

The design service helped us organize our ideas into a useable blueprint. Amwood created our beautiful new home design with all the detail we needed to begin construction. It only took a few weeks and we were able to see the home taking shape. Thank you Amwood!

These guys sent us to Douglas Nelson of Cascade Builders of WI. We had no choice and quickly found out this guy doesn't know anything about construction from what we can tell. He doesn't know how to create a budget or contract. He didn't know the wisconsin building codes nor did he want to do anything but sit and collect money. He is a certified builder of Amwood Homes in Janesville and they too put the screws to us many times.

We didn't know going in that we would not be Amwood's customer but would be Dougs. This was who Amwood said we needed to use as a GC but never mentioned that would make Doug their customer and not us. Doug nor Amwood returns calls or emails. We never got the chance to do any pics for faucets, sinks etc. We had to do all that on our own and purchase them as well. Doug went over budget on most all items without discussing with us or using change orders. Amwood would ding us as well for every little thing Doug messed up. No responsibility taken by either
